Water intoxication

The disease in brief

Thirsty cattle that drink a lot of water, if the temperature is high, or if they are salt deficient, or if they are young cattle can cause hemolysis and cerebral edema.

Clinic & diagnosis

Hemoglobinuria in young ruminants, often shortly before or after weaning, and pale to pale yellow vaginal or conjunctival mucosa suggest water intoxication.
