Bovine ephemeral fever
The disease in brief
It is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes (Aedes, Anophele, Culex sp.) And by midges (Culiucoïdes brevarsis) affecting cattle, in Africa, Asia, Australia: This mode of transmission causes the disease can reach European herds, insects being able to cross great distances with the wind. The disease can affect almost all cattle in a newly infected area, with low mortality (<1%).
Clinic & diagnosis
The disease should be suspected by observing both:
-A collective evolution, where the first patients of the batch are cured in 2 to 8 days.
-Fever
- Locomotor signs: Cattle are reluctant to move (painful movements) and / or are reluctant to lie down, or the gait is stiff, or they are weak, stagger or stagger, or pick them up is difficult or impossible.
-Varied signs: Lacrimation, throwing, tremors or muscle contractions
