Synonyms
No known synonym
Name of the disease in English
Nasal actinobacillosis
The disease in brief
Actinobacillosis does not only affect the tongue, but can develop in the nasal cavities or nasal turbinates. It is an infrequent location and of anecdotal importance. It is necessary to know its existence to know how to intervene specifically.
Clinic & diagnosis
In addition to local signs of rhinitis, when discharge is abnormal and prolonged, sometimes associated with granulomas or hypertrophy of local lymph nodes, actinobacillosis may be suspected.

Differential diagnosis
:- Tumor of the nostrils or sinuses N149
Confirm a suspicion?
A sample of pus or granulomas allows the laboratory to observe specific microscopic formations of actinoballosis.
Prognosis and treatment
The treatment can be based on the combination of:
-An anti-infective such as sulfonamides (sulfadimerazine), or penicillin-Streptomycin (IM for 5 days)
– A supply of iodine either parenterally (Sodium Iodide 8g /100 kgPV / IV infusion, once or to be repeated after one week / Infusion, or orally (Potassium Iodide, off-label, replacing the second IV injection / 8 g / day for a 500 kg animal for 7 to 15 days until the first signs of iodism (tears, scaling)
The prognosis is good if the treatment is started on time and prolonged enough (allow a week at the start)
Prevention
There is no specific prevention; anything that will reduce micro-lesions of the oral cavity and its periphery will reduce the risk of actinobacillosis.
