The disease in brief
Disease notifiable to the OIE-2018
This is a benign disease, probably transmitted by biting insects, which is prevalent in Africa (Kenya); it is caused by Ehrlichia ondiri and manifests itself by fever and the appearance of petechiae. The mode of transmission by insects is poorly understood, but it should be remembered that patients remain latently infected for 2 years; an adaptation to our European climates cannot therefore be excluded.
