The disease in brief
It is excessive flexion of the joint that causes dislocation; its frequency is low, following falls and various accidents.
Clinic & diagnosis
A limb removed from support, a suddenly swollen and deformed joint suggest dislocation; palpation of the scapulohumeral joint which shows a widened joint space or a crepitation-joint cracking reinforces the suspicion.

UAn ultrasound scan of this angle confirms the increase in the distance between the two bony ends.
Prognosis and treatment
Manual reduction is possible under tranquilization, with the bovine standing or lying down, in forced extension. Spontaneous reduction by the animal itself has been described by attaching a rope between the fetlock and the halter!
