Mixed diarrhea of the 2nd week of life of the calf: INFO
The disease in brief
This is not a disease, but a group of problems that occur in the first days of a calf's life and that often combine to make a situation worse. This is therefore a situation of a herd facing losses in the first age. At this age, we can be faced with:
- Viral, bacterial and/or parasitic infections that accumulate
- Defects in colostral intake which will increase mortality.
-Problems of unsuitable housing, with a problem that increases from Christmas to the first days of spring
-Poorly controlled breastfeeding with diarrhea at any age, all year round.
Clinic & diagnosis
This is therefore a problem for a herd which is faced with calf mortality during the first days of life.

Confirm a suspicion?
Do not forget that this is a multifactorial problem; microbes are not everything. One or better several diarrhea samples from patients allow us to list the pathogens involved:
Prognosis and treatment
Find an epidemiological-clinical lead and implement the appropriate treatment method.
Prevention
Prevention must begin with a risk analysis to be done with the breeder and, together, you must make the choices of action; you must first:
-Talk about long-term prevention strategy: HYVX-5
-Check colostrum quality and freeze colostrum; HYVX-2
-Giving the right dose of colostrum at the right time: HYVX-3
-Preventing diarrhea by vaccinating mothers: HYVX-1
-Also assess the sanitary quality of calf housing: HYVX-4
-A good drying off for a good calving: HYVX-6
