Name of the disease in English

Pulmonary edema

The disease in brief

Pulmonary edema is the next stage of pulmonary congestion. The engorgement of the capillaries of the lung leads to the passage of liquid into the alveolus drastically reducing the capacity of the lung tissue for gas exchange, leading to anoxia. This is anaphylaxis, acute pneumonia (especially at Mannheimia haemolytica), Gram-negative septicemia, heart failure - especially right-sided - poisoning (organophosphorus or carbamates) which are the main causes of pulmonary edema.

Clinic & diagnosis

A frothy discharge that accompanies severe dyspnea leading to respiratory distress and resulting in pronounced dejection (impossible to get up, no reactions to stimulation) suggests pulmonary edema.

-Bronchopneumonia-Emphysema virus RS RS26.2

Prognosis and treatment

Treatment should act on the cause of the congestion (cardiac, pulmonary). Treatment includes: antihistamines in case of anaphylaxis, furosemide to treat edema, antibiotics to avoid bacterial complications.

Prevention

Pulmonary edema is often a final stage of a disease; rely on prevention of this disease.
