The disease in brief
Tooth abscess is the result of a primary infection of the root or is the result of a broken tooth.
Clinic & diagnosis
It is a lump on the cheek or mandible that attracts the breeder's attention; a closer look at the mouth reveals a loose, split or painful tooth. Fever or local lymphadenitis may accompany the abscess. Maxillary sinusitis is a common complication of abscess or after tooth avulsion.

Prognosis and treatment
Treatment involves avulsion of the diseased tooth. It is done under tranquillization or general anesthesia. The root is released and the tooth pulled out with the forceps. Antibiotic treatment with good tissue diffusion completes the treatment:
