The disease in brief
This is a hereditary anomaly, manifested by the appearance of progressive paralysis of the pelvic limbs in calves from 2 weeks to 3 months of the Rouge des Prés breed. Its transmission is autosomal recessive and a screening test exists.
Clinic & diagnosis
The disease can be suspected when newborn or week-old calves of the Rouge des Prés breed show an uncoordinated gait that can lead to falling over or calves that walk in circles.

Prognosis and treatment
No treatment; the abnormality is always fatal.
Prevention
The screening test makes it possible to identify carriers of the gene among unaffected breeders.
