Name of the disease in English

Prepubic tendon rupture

The disease in brief

The prepubic tendon, through its pubic insertion, is a key element of the abdominal strap. Its rupture occurs more often in older cows, at the end of gestation, with twins or dropsy.

Clinic & diagnosis

The “dropped” belly just in front of the breast suggests rupture.

Differential diagnosis

-Hematoma under the skin CH3

Confirm a suspicion?

A rectal examination can check for rupture on the anterior edge of the pubis.

Prognosis and treatment

Depending on the level of pain, the prognosis can vary greatly. The most serious cases, sometimes with inability to get up, must be euthanized. If you want to keep a cow, you must plan to induce calving to release the pressure on the abdominal strap. Calving must be closely monitored.

Prevention
